To reduce crowd sizes on Saturday and promote safety for business owners and shoppers, the shopping and promotion period of “Shop Owensboro” has been extended to encompass a full week.

The formerly single-day event, curated by the Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce, begins Saturday and concludes Dec. 5.

On Saturday, Independence Bank (which sponsors the event) and Chamber staff will provide customers with shopping bags during the kickoff, drive-thru event at the Owensboro Convention Center at 9 a.m.

Shopping bags will include:
-Maps with participating stores including contact Information
-Shop Owensboro bingo cards
-Coupons, special offers and discounts
-Hidden gift certificates from participating stores

Shoppers will earn a stamp for each purchase at a participating business on their bingo card. Shoppers making online purchases from participating businesses can show proof of purchase. Shoppers can return their Bingo cards to the Chamber by Dec. 11 to be entered into a drawing for two grand prizes.

The event is designed to support locally-owned businesses while connecting people in the community.

“We felt like it was really important for us to continue the tradition,” said Candance Castlen Brake, president and CEO for GO Chamber.

But the Chamber wants to help ensure that stores don’t face crowds as Kentucky experiences greater case rates and restrictions.

The Chamber encourages shoppers to select non-peak times to visit stores while also verifying local shopping options — many merchants have created or enhanced their online presences and added curbside pick-up or delivery options.

“There are so many ways to shop local right here in Owensboro,” Brake said.

As of Sunday night, participating businesses — as listed on the event Facebook page here — were:
