The Apex Best Chemicals Building at 112 W. Second St. sold at auction Friday for $415,000 to Scott Jagoe of Jagoe Homes.

Jagoe said they haven’t made any final decisions on what to do with building just yet.

“I think there is a lot of opportunity in this area for more restaurants, people to gather,” he said. “We have a vaccine, we’re going to come out of COVID, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Jaoge said the Apex building — which will keep its sign — could be a future retail store, restaurant, boutique hotel or housing, or even some combination of those.

Jagoe and his brother Bill also own other downtown properties, including 118 and 102 Veterans Blvd. and property on Allen Street.

“We’ll start some pre-planning,” Jagoe said of their next steps for the Apex builsing. “I’ve already done a little bit of pre-planning but we’ll roll those out probably sometime early spring.”

The building was auctioned off by Tony Clark Realtors. It drew 24 bids.

The building had been owned by Robert “Bob” Prather since 1973. Scott Prather, Bob’s son, said his dad was in an accident earlier this year and had to move into an assisted living facility in June.

“Time caught up with him,” Scott Prather said. “I hated to see that because this was pretty much his life.”

Scott Prather said he was sad to see the building go but was hopeful for its future, noting the renewed focus of developing the downton portion of the City.

“I think there’s going to be good things for downtown Owensboro,” he said. “I’d love to see the younger generation spend time down here like I spend down here.”
