Timothy Poiles opened The Coffee Shoppe with the goal of providing delicious, local coffee for his customers, but he also wanted to give back to his community in a meaningful way. So, 10% of all proceeds at the fairly new shop go toward supporting ministries and mission programs.

Poiles donates part of his profits to Fireside Ministries, Proskuneo Ministries and global outreach programs. Right now, Poiles is donating to well-digging programs in Haiti.

“Those three ministries are close to me,” he said. “One is in Georgia that I worked with the past two summers. One is local — Fireside. There are people at my church who participate in that one.”

Poiles also supports other local companies with his business. He buys Big Turkey Foot Coffee and creates drinks from products in their line.

Business has been good after opening The Coffee Shoppe in mid-November, Poiles said. His shop is located at 4921 Goetz Drive, Suite 3 beside Kennise Salon & Barber Studio.

“I was working at Starbucks in February, and I’m really good family friends with the salon owner,” he said. “She had space available and said she’d always wanted a coffee shop in her salon. She asked me if I wanted to try my hand at starting a business.”

Poiles said he received a lot of help from friends and family members in getting his business up and running. He said things have been going better than expected, adding that utilizing social media helped garner a lot of interest for The Coffee Shoppe.

And though it’s been somewhat stressful to operate his business alone, especially when things get busy, Poiles said having too much business was a good problem to have.

“I want to send a big thank you to anyone who has come by and supported me. It’s meant a lot to me,” he said.
