On My Way

Todd O’Flynn always dreamed of owning his own automotive repair business but living in the city, he didn’t have the space he needed to build a shop. O’Flynn got innovative, creating On My Way — an auto repair business on wheels.

O’Flynn said On My Way brings the auto shop to the customer, instead of the other way around. Using a truck and trailer, O’Flynn said his mobile service has seen “enormous” success since hitting the pavement last September.

“I’ve always wanted my own shop since I started ranching at a young age,” he said. “I don’t have a yard big enough to build a shop, but I saw on YouTube about mobile mechanics in larger cities like St. Louis and New York. That kind of work is really booming right now.”

With 20 years of experience in auto repair, O’Flynn said he can do pretty much anything when it comes to fixing vehicles — whether it be oil changes, tire rotations, air conditioning, brakes, steering, suspension or trailer repairs.

The only repairs O’Flynn doesn’t perform with his mobile service are transmission replacements and engine swaps, simply because he would need more space for the lifting equipment.

Since opening up shop, O’Flynn has averaged three vehicle repairs a day. He even quit his longtime job in mid-March to run On My Way full-time. He’s responded mostly to house calls so far, but O’Flynn said he can take his truck and trailer pretty much anywhere.

“I can be wherever the job is,” he said. “If you’re at work and need an oil change, I can come to you at work. It’s a huge, huge convenience for people.”

Though he tries to stay competitive with other auto mechanics in the area, O’Flynn said his cost-effective business model allows him to offer discounts to customers more often. As the only official mobile auto mechanic in the area, O’Flynn said he’s received many words of praise from those he’s helped.

“A lot of people have told me it’s an awesome idea,” he said. “I’ve had people say they wish I’d been around earlier. It’s such a busy time for a lot of people, and they’re balancing so many things. When are you going to have time to drop your car off at a shop and have someone come pick you up? With this, you’re in the convenience of your home.”

O’Flynn offers his repair services across all of Daviess and surrounding counties.. Prices are based on the job at hand, while customers are charged hourly rates when O’Flynn has to inspect and diagnose the mechanical issue.
