The downtown building that is presently home to The Creme Coffee House and an updated Airbnb apartment is for sale. The Creme, however, will remain operational at that location at least until the end of its lease in 2025.

Brooklyn Patterson purchased the coffee house in May of 2020 from her father, Adam. Adam is the still the owner of the building, located at 109 E. 2nd St. Adam takes great pride in owning a historical piece of downtown Owensboro but has since moved out of state and finds it a struggle to maintain the building from a distance.

“It’s a 131-year-old building with beautiful charm and uniqueness that adds character to downtown Owensboro,” Brooklyn said. “Most of the building is original, except for the electrical and plumbing, which are new to keep up with code. We’ve also conducted some minor renovations for the business.”

Patterson is hopeful that the new owner will want to continue the partnership even at the end of the lease.

“The Creme will remain in this building until May of 2025,” she said. “Hopefully it won’t happen, but in the case that The Creme has to move out of this building, we will explore options for a new location, become a mobile coffee shop, or potentially both. All of these options are great opportunities, and I’m excited for whatever the future brings.”

The Creme has been a downtown staple for nearly 14 years, with Brooklyn being the fourth local owner. She wants to continue the legacy of creating a home away from home for the foreseeable future.

“This is a great place to have meetings, hang out with friends, study, or just enjoy some coffee with a good book,” she said. “We love Owensboro, and we plan to remain open as long as we possibly can. Staying in the building is important to us, but our top priority is serving Owensboro the best locally roasted coffee with a smile.”

Erected in 1890, the 3,393-square-foot building with two floors and a basement. The listing associate is DJ McHenry with The Harris Jarboe Group of Keller Williams Realty. The listing price is $599,900.

Changing with the season, The Creme is now offering all their fall favorites for drinks and desserts. Both Pattersons remain steadfast in their efforts to promote local businesses.

“The future only holds amazing opportunities, and we look forward to whatever comes our way,” Brooklyn said. “Remember always to support local businesses because they are the backbone of our community.”
