Melanie Hodskins has been photographing families for more than 8 years. Specializing in maternity, newborn, family and senior portraits, she is growing her business and opening a new studio.
She opened her first studio in 2018 has since outgrown that space. Her new space is located at 121 E. 2nd St. Suite 140, across from the RiverPark Center.
To celebrate the new space, Hodskins is hosting a grand opening and Christmas event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Nov. 27.
“At this event, clients can just walk in — no booking required — and have their Christmas card picture made and also enjoy some snacks, see my new space and line of products, and shop with HorseFeathers Gifts who will have her jewelry on display in my studio,” Hodskins said.
As a full-service photographer, she provides clients with a wardrobe collection from which to choose outfits and helps them purchase heirloom-quality art.
“My style of photography is contemporary magazine-style portraiture,” she said. “I love to photograph the raw, authentic moments. By getting to know my client I am able to invoke images that portray emotions and connections. A session with me will have you bonding more with your family. All the while I will be capturing dreamy images.”
Hodskins said she has clients covered, from booking to print purchase.
“My client wardrobe collection idea began so many years ago,” she said. “I had an idea of what I wanted clients to wear to add a certain dreamy vibe to their images, but these were not clothes that a typical person would have in their closet, nor would they want to spend the amount of money on these gowns for a one-time session. So I started my closet and it really took a turn for uniqueness when I found a gown designer in Canada.”
Hodskins said clients love the fact that they don’t have to take the whole family shopping for endless hours for outfits. She said another added bonus of choosing her services is she helps all of her clients purchase art and prints their photos.
“I cannot tell you how many times I have heard a client say they have sessions sitting in an old laptop that they have never printed and they felt like it was money and time wasted,” she said. “After our session, we have a reveal-ordering appointment and create gorgeous wall art or an album featuring their favorite images.”
