After about 25 years of serving Owensboro, Trisons Gifts will be closing business at the end of the year, with the family saying it was a hard and emotional decision. Trophy House & All American Advertising Specialties will remain open.

The three businesses are run by the Clemens family. Jennie Clemens purchased the Trophy House 1974, and they expanded to include the ad business in 1980. The gift shop opened in 1997, when they all moved into one building at at 511 Frederica Street.

Randy Clemens said the past year has been a bit difficult for the gift shop. Plus, he said his mother Jennie had served her time at the store at 83 years old.

“It’s definitely a deeply emotional thing that was her passion. She loved going to the market. She loved being able to talk to the customers as they came in,” Randy said.

He also finds the shop difficult to close. He said they have put a lot into the business and are thankful for the small, tight-knit community that Owensboro has provided.

“We’ve put a lot into it and we’ve gotten a lot out of it. Meeting all kinds of people and we feel like they’re all friends,” Randy said. “We don’t just have customers here — they’re friends.”

During the last weeks of the store, Clemens said they will be having a 30% discount.

In an announcement on Facebook, Jennie wrote “We want to thank our family and friends for the support and patronage over the last 25+ years. We will be liquidating all remaining inventory through the end of 2021. … Thank You for your support and we look forward to seeing your smiling faces in Trisons as we close and Trophy House going forward.”
