Local business owners across the city are seeing highs after taking part in the annual Shop Owensboro event, according to the Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce President/CEO Candance Castlen Brake. She said seeing the way the community was able to support businesses throughout town has been a gratifying experience.
“To be able to do our part to connect those merchants and shop owners with our community at large and to continue to stay healthy and grow, that’s just one of the most gratifying, rewarding experiences that we have here at the Chamber,” Brake said.
During Saturday’s kickoff event, Chamber members gave green Shop Owensboro bags to participating shoppers, including bingo cards to push residents to visit as many businesses as possible. Both items helped get the community involved and enjoy the festivities, according to officials at Shoe Stop.
Tara Thomas, assistant manager at Shoe Stop, said that this week has been great for the store and they were able to meet the city’s needs even while having an inventory shortage.
Thomas said that throughout town she often hears how people want to support local businesses before supporting larger corporations, and she was able to see that firsthand Saturday.
“We have great patronage and the city sure showed up that Saturday and the customers really enjoyed everything including the bingo cards. It was a really great experience,” Thomas said.
Shop Owensboro is still going on through the end of the week and has more than 70 businesses taking part with creative ways to be able to provide their service to the community.
