There’s a new place in Owensboro to get all manner of cowboy boots, Western apparel, and matching accessories — with merchandise ranging from those wanting to dress up for concerts to a rodeo. The grand opening for Rustic Roots Western Apparel is today from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The business, located at 3601 Frederica Street across from German American Bank, is owned by the husband-and-wife duo of Sondra and Juan Perez.

“We wear a lot of boots, jeans, hats,” Sondra Perez said. “We like to travel to Lexington quite often to a store up there that has a lot of this. We’ve both previously lived in Georgia, and there’s a lot of stores like this there. Here, you don’t see it. I was like, why don’t we try something new.”

Perez said they will have an array of boots, which is what she expects to be the main draw for customers.

“We’re not just going to have cowboy boots,” she said. “We’re gonna have a lot of boots that you see that people would wear to concerts or dances. We also will have rodeo boots, show boots, work boots, steel-toe boots, things like that.”

Rustic Roots will carry merchandise for men, women and children, though they don’t have all of our children’s items in yet. They have numerous types of cowboy and Western shirts. She said the women’s styles will be more Boho-chic “because that’s what’s more in style right now.”

Rustic Roots also carries belts, belt buckles, and hats, as well as handbags, gun holsters, knife holsters, and more.

Hours will be Tuesdays-Fridays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Sundays from 12 to 5 p.m.; and Mondays they will be closed for inventory.

“We will have new merchandise every few weeks, so there will be new stuff in and out,” Perez said. “We’ll accept all types of payment.”
