David McGary has been the owner of DMC Graphics for nearly 20 years, but the work involved has always been a passion of his. The graphic design business that allows him to be creative while providing a valuable service.

“I was always interested in art, and graphic design is kind of a commercial version of art,” McGary said. “The two just go hand-in-hand.”

Graphic design started out as more of a side gig for McGary, but it ended up growing into a full-time job, which he said has proven over and over again to be worthwhile.

“I like getting to see our work go down the street,” McGary said. “It’s a way of having pride in our work because I get to point and say ‘oh, we did that!’”

The work of DMC Graphics can be seen on any given day while driving the roads of Owensboro, as they have done vehicle wraps for many local well-known clients over the years.

“Vehicle advertising has become more of a thing than it used to be, as most local businesses want lettering for their vehicles,” McGary said. “We work with NiteLiters, Evergreen, the city buses, and several heating and cooling places here in town. The majority of our business is commercial.”

One of the aspects of car-wrapping McGary enjoys most is that it is not repetitive work, which keeps his job exciting day-to-day.

“It’s hard for me to say which is the coolest wrap we’ve done,” McGary said. “We wrapped the Sunday Night Football Bus in 2019. We’ve done three or four soapbox derby cars here recently; we made them look real sharp and racy, so hopefully the kids can get in them and get pretty excited about it.”

The services that DMC Graphics offers don’t stop at wrapping vehicles. They also do graphic design for printing purposes, logos for company identity, banners, decals, and other projects.

“We once did a wrap for the world’s largest chocolate bar,” McGary said. “The marketing company we work for took it on tour, so that was pretty neat.”

McGary said that without the help of his co-workers, he’s not sure where his business would be today.

“There are seven of us here full-time and despite me starting the company and the countless overtime hours, I’d be hard-pressed to get much done or have gotten this far without the hardworking staff of DMC and their support,” McGary said.

DMC Graphics is located at 1635 St. Sweeney Street. For more information, check out their website here.
