Green River Distilling Co. is celebrating National Bourbon Day with free tours of their campus all day today.

The tour typically lasts approximately 60 minutes and showcases a behind-the-scenes look at Owensboro’s historic distillery and traditional bourbon whiskey production.

As one of Kentucky’s oldest distilleries, Green River got its start with the original iteration being built in 1885. During that time, Green River placed Owensboro on the map as a major bourbon producer for its first 30 years.

The distillery later burned down in 1918 and was eventually rebuilt in 1936 when the current buildings were erected. They have since undergone multiple name changes, and in 2021 the distillery was reestablished with the name Green River.

“The original Green River was known for its quality whiskey, and we’re proud to bring the same commitment to the best ingredients, craftsmanship and tradition today,” Suzanne Pace with SW Communications said.

Tours are provided to those age 21+ and are given rain or shine. The tour requires guests to walk up and down stairs and on uneven ground and concludes with an optional tasting.

Reservations are not required but can be booked online here.
