The Magical Memories Character Company opened last month, offering public domain-inspired characters for youth birthday parties, outings, and other special events. Founders and owners Rebeca Spinks, Lissa Bishop, and Nikki Johnson said they arrived at the business idea because they are passionate about the magic the characters can create for children.

Inspired by fairy tales, Magical Memories offers a long list of character options and intends to grow that list moving forward. Spinks said they would constantly strive to satisfy the community’s wants and needs within the industry.

“The three of us are all mothers, and we know how much these moments meant to our kids and families,” Spinks said. “We get great satisfaction from creating magic and providing those opportunities for other children and families.”

Johnson said restrictions set forth by the pandemic opened everyone’s eyes and encouraged the small group of entrepreneurs to cherish and savor the smaller moments of life.

“We need this in our local communities,” Johnson said. “We want to make sure that these opportunities still exist and that parents and children who have that need and desire aren’t missing out on any magic.”

Johnson added that many of the children they’re serving are foreign to life outside of the pandemic. She referenced a mall with no Santa and many other “magical” opportunities that the community’s youngest members haven’t experienced.

Magical Memories launched its website – magicalmemoriescharacter.co – last week, which provides a list of characters with details on pricing and more. The group also accepts reservations for their many characters on the site.

All three owners are heavily involved in the company, continuing to serve as performers when necessary. With four performers presently on staff, they are actively recruiting and interviewing new talent.

“As performers, the experience is touching,” Bishop said. “It’s heartwarming to see how much it means to the kids and their families. It’s cool to dress up and feel pretty, but the fulfillment comes from what you’re doing for other people.”

The three divvy up responsibilities and lean on each other’s strengths to ensure a seamless, client-friendly experience.

“We balance each other out quite nicely,” Spinks said. “We’re ready to start booking right now. We have several events and parties already on the calendar, which is exciting.”
