Barry and Stacy Bratcher, owners of Beef ‘O’ Brady’s in Owensboro since 2006, were recently awarded Franchisees of the Year at the brand’s national conference after bringing in the highest sales in company history last year. The Bratchers said the secret to success is maintaining a family atmosphere and focusing on the customer experience.

The award is given to one of the 140 Beef’s locations around the country each year. The Bratcher said that winning the award is really a testament to the staff from the kitchen to the dining team.

“This award goes back to the customers, the staff, our management team for everything that they put into it and what they do to see that kind of recognition for Owensboro,” Barry said. “Owensboro’s been very supportive of us over the years and we’re very grateful for that.”

Barry and Stacy Bratcher opened up the location on KY 54 in 2006, and they were one of the pioneers of the KY 54 dining experience. Barry said back when they first opened, they would joke about seeing people drive past them to head to Frederica Street for food.

Now, he said he sees several people in the Beef’s family come way more frequently.

“I thought a regular would be somebody we might see once a week. It’s twice a day that we see some people coming in because this is their family,” Barry said.

Focusing on that customer service aspect has been the core of the restaurant since the two opened.

Stacy credits that dedication to the way the community has continually supported them day in and day out. She said the community’s support over the years has been flourishing each and every year.

Stacy noted how they’ve been able to renovate or expand almost every 6 years since opening. In 2012 they expanded to their current space at 3189 Fairview Drive; in 2019 they were able to perform a complete renovation.

That remodel came at an ideal time, as they added their pickup window.

“We added the pickup window and that saved us during the pandemic because we were closed for 13 weeks straight,” Stacy said. “…But that window really did save our business because people were able to still come in and order their food without being able to come in.”

The staff was able to stay on staff during the pandemic. Those bonds that are established as coworkers is also another reason why they work so well together, Stacy said.

Stacy mentioned that the team really is a place of family, as several of the staff members are siblings and some are couples.

“I just liked that it makes it a fun atmosphere for them to work here with their family and their friends that are close,” Stacy said.
