Owensboro Fire Department firefighter Brad Hall has started a new business that he sees as a way to serve the community – hanging Christmas lights.
His family-owned-and-operated business, Deck the Halls Holiday Lighting, is now available in Daviess County.
“As a working man myself, I realize that finding time to do anything extra such as decorating for the holidays is difficult,” he said. “Some of my favorite memories as a child and even as an adult are driving around and looking at all of the Christmas lights.”
Prior to living in Owensboro, Hall lived in Kansas City also working as a firefighter. He also worked for a company that had a similar concept for Christmas lighting; and, after living in Owensboro for a few years, he realized a company that hung Christmas lights did not exist. So he created his plan, hoping it will be as successful in Owensboro as it is in Kansas City.
Hall will offer customers commercial-grade lights that will be custom-cut for the customer’s house. The price is based off the linear feet the customer wants decorated and includes the materials the first year.
“Every year following would just be installation cost only, unless the customer chose to change or add to the previous decorations,” he said.

Deck the Halls will also remove the lights for a fee and will put them in a customer-provided storage tote to use the following year.
Deck the Halls offers free estimates and potential customers do not have to be present but must give permission to be on the roof so measurements can be taken. He will then send a service estimate.
Hall has begun operation and while his goal is to have all lights up by Thanksgiving, he will continue to take customers through December.
“I know that many families have the tradition of turning their lights on the day after [Thanksgiving], so my hope is to give them that opportunity,” Hall said.
While Hall joked that he is taking this enterprise “one bulb at a time,” he hopes it becomes tradition for families to hire Deck the Halls for many years. He is surprised at the positive feedback he has received already while promoting his business.
“My whole career path has been servicing my community and I see this as another opportunity to do so,” he said.
