Applications are being accepted for the local work-and-learn program designed to develop highly skilled workers. The GO FAME program is run by Owensboro Community and Technical College, with students able to continue education with little or no out-of-pocket expenses before getting a new job.

GO FAME involves an alliance of local manufacturers partnering with OCTC in an apprenticeship-style training program. The 18-month program allows students to earn an industry recognized, multi-craft technician degree while gaining valuable experience working in a manufacturing environment. Two program options are offered: an Advanced Manufacturing Technician track, or a Computerized Manufacturing and Machining track.

GO FAME is a selective admissions program. Applicants must have earned a high school diploma or GED prior to entering the program. GO FAME employer sponsors will interview applicants and select the participants for the cohort.

Once in the program, students work at least three days a week at their sponsoring employer and attend college classes at OCTC two days a week. The GO FAME program allows students to earn an education while incurring little or no debt. The sponsoring employer pays a minimum of 50% of the student’s tuition costs and an hourly wage for time on the job.

In addition, the GO FAME program qualifies for the KY Work Ready Scholarship, which covers up to 100% tuition and mandatory fees for eligible students. Upon successful completion of the program, GO FAME students earn an Advanced Manufacturing Technician, Associate in Applied Science Degree or a Computerized Manufacturing and Machining, Associate in Applied Science Degree from OCTC.

GO FAME is currently accepting applications for new students to begin classes in August 2023. Interested students should apply here. Information sessions are scheduled for November 3 and December 1 at 5:30 p.m. in Room 8 of OCTC’s Downtown Campus located at 1501 Frederica Street.

“The information sessions are open to the public, and interested students and parents are encouraged to attend to learn more about the GO FAME program,” said Alicyn Rodgers, the new GO FAME Success Coach.
