Sarah Swift is an Owensboro native, a mom to two girls, and a physical therapist. Recently, she added business owner to her list of titles.

Swift said she has a passion for educating families on preparing for baby and ways to achieve milestones, and she loves working with children of all ages to achieve their goals. So she decided to create her own practice: Kaleidoscope Kids Physical Therapy.

“I created Kaleidoscope Kids Physical Therapy because I saw a need for physical therapy services in our community, specifically services geared toward preparing families for baby and services to help families understand how to promote development as their baby grows,” Swift said.

Swift said the name meaning goes to the core of what is so interesting about the practice of physical therapy.

“All patients, particularly children and babies and their families, require an individualized plan of care,” she said. “Every child is different and the tools needed to help them reach their potential varies. It is amazing to me how a task can be achieved so differently based on the individual. Just like a kaleidoscope image changes, each child develops differently.”

While Swift said she offers traditional physical therapy, she is most excited about her “Baby Ready” service, where she consults with the caregiver(s) working together to help them feel more comfortable preparing for baby, what to expect the first few months of life, ways to help baby achieve milestones, how to use things around the home, red flags to look for as baby develops, and ways to keep caregiver from injuring themselves.

“I want caregivers to have a better understanding of what is actually needed for a child’s development,” she said. “Social media and other platforms push so many toys, baby items, other necessities — and much of what is needed can be found in their home already.”

There will also be the option for check-in service. This service allows the caregiver to ask questions and get answers, and Swift provides them with activities they can do to encourage further development.

For the Baby Ready service, an individual who is expecting a child is the best candidate. Swift said she recommends the service for someone who is expecting baby in the next few months as opposed to the beginning of pregnancy. The check-in service is for caregivers with babies who are birth to 3-4 years old, and the traditional service is for any child, birth to 18 years old, who is in the need of gross motor assistance.

Kaleidoscope Kids Physical Therapy will have its grand opening from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at 1702 Moseley Street. Attendees can come and ask questions about the services and the practice. There will be discounts available for Baby Ready, an obstacle course for children, and ideas on how to create one at home using items already in your home.
