The Owensboro Antique Mall is closing the doors to its current location at the end of the month, but the business isn’t going away altogether. Owner Samuel Rafferty has purchased a new building and will change the business name to Owensboro Antiques and More when the transition is complete.

The new space is located at 2119 Frederica Street (on the east side of the road, roughly halfway between the library and Jimmy John’s).

Rafferty said while the location is smaller, he hopes to carry more than just antiques. He hopes to expand some of the non-antique dealers he already has, which offer items including quilts, jewelry, aprons, cast iron items, and more.

“At this place, I think it’ll be better for anyone to shop. We’ll do some gift items, like unique items to decorate for holidays,” Rafferty said. “Just to accent the place with some things to draw more people in that don’t necessarily like antiques.”

Rafferty said all of his antique dealers will not be able to make the journey, but about six or seven are expected to operate in the new space.

While the current location will be closing at the end of the month, Rafferty said he doesn’t know when the new space will be open.

“We have to get a site plan done and do upgrades to parking and handicap accessibility. So I have no idea when working with construction workers how long they will take,” he said. “I’m just glad we’ve got a place to start moving.”
