Windy Hollow Biscuit House’s Shrimp and Grits Burger takes the crown in the third year of Burger Week and sets a new record-high score for a winner of the contest.

A blind tasting from a 14-person judging panel composed of experts and burger fans awarded Windy Hollow Biscuit House the highest overall average score of 86.86 out of 100 possible points.

Even though Burger Week is gone, the winning burger is not off the menu as they plan to continue it at least through the month.

While the Biscuit House is usually open a few days in the week, they extended their hours throughout the week to be able to compete and showcase the burger as much as possible.

Chef Quinten Lindsey said that the inspiration for the burger comes from his history with Cajun cooking.

“I have a lot of Cajun cooking history, When I was living in Dayton, Ohio, I was a cook at a Cajun restaurant so I learned a lot of down south cooking,” Lindsey said.

There were other options for their burger but the after trying the Shrimp and Grits burger first, they knew they had found a winner he said.

After Windy Hollow, Visit Owensboro said that Niko’s Bakery finished second place, J’s Good Grub finished third, Old Hickory BBQ at fourth and Thai Food Owensboro rounded out the top 5. For the third year in a row, Beef ‘O’ Brady’s sold the most featured burgers during Owensboro Burger Week at 3,584.

Adding to the record-breaking score, the city broke the record for most produced sales with 34,549 burgers sold throughout the 38 participating locations — up from 16,000 last year with 32 locations.

Destination Manager for Visit Owensboro David Kirk said they plan to bring it back next year in the Spring of 2024 and hope to make another economic impact for Owensboro’s local businesses.

“Over $241,843 was spent in nine days on featured burgers sales alone.  When you take those burger sales and add in people buying other food and drinks, you’ve created an enormous economic impact,” Kirk said.
