The Spot has reopened for business on Veach Road, right around the corner from its former location. Owner Jacob Pendley is excited about the future of the new space, especially with a new mural soon.

The coffee shop was closed for a month as it moved out of Williamsburg Square and set its sights on 2815 Veach Road, the former location of MentorKids Kentucky. Over the month, Pendley said he received calls and texts from the community almost daily asking when it would be open.

“People were talking about how they could not find other coffee they liked and how no place felt the same. They just always felt so welcomed and like they belonged there,” he said.

He said because of the upgrades they were doing, there was some delay in opening — they were initially expecting to open on March 1. Yet, with the support from the community and others like Berly Tillman at MentorKids and Representative DJ Johnson, they were able to open in under a month.

But that does not stop some of the upgrades from happening, Pendley said.

“This place is unique in its own way and we’re working on creating that more,” Pendley said.

That includes painting a mural on the northside exterior wall. While the details aren’t ready to share, Pendley did say he wants to touch on the belonging his customers often feel.

“It incorporates many ideologies because that’s what The Spot is all about. We welcome everybody, no matter what kind of person you are or what your background is. We welcome everybody, so the mural will incorporate that same sort of ideas,” Pendley said.

Additionally, The Spot plans to open a drive-thru window alongside the north wall and the parking lot around the building will be repaved throughout.

“It’s going to be a brand new, professionally done parking lot. So that will be available within the next 60 days,” Pendley said.

The new space also opens them up to new types of events, he said, so they plan to host trivia nights, open mics, poetry nights, and more inside the space.

He said the location is also great because it is around the corner from their previous location, and it’ll help bring him closer to the road for the commute. In the meantime, he’s thankful for years of support from The Spot and ready for guests to make their way to the new space.
