If you’ve driven through Owensboro lately, you’ve probably noticed more than a few yards are displaying a sign with a simple reminder: Be kind.

The “Be Kind” signs are a fundraiser for Owensboro Cumberland Presbyterian Church and their “Give Because He Gave” program. The program uses donations to fund a variety of outreach programs, such as their annual drive-thru live nativity. Previously, the program has helped pay for school lunches, given donations to local shelters and provided blankets to Hospice.

The yard signs are not only a fundraiser but a reminder to be kind to one another.

Jan Catron, church treasurer, said so far 300 signs have found homes, and they just received a new shipment.

“We’ve been really excited about it,” she said. “When we see them out, we’re like ‘Yay!’”

Cantron said a church member donated several signs to Deer Park Elementary School and had the students sign them. Those signs dot US HWY 231.

Anyone interested in spreading the kindness movement can pick up a “Be Kind” sign at Owensboro Cumberland Presbyterian Church at 910 Booth Ave. on Wednesdays from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m.
