Owensboro Police Department’s sworn personnel who make donations to two OPD causes will be allowed to grow beards up to one inch in length.

This is the fourth year for the fundraiser, and this year it will last five months, allowing more money to be raised.

The two causes benefitting from this event are OPD’s sixth annual Operation Santa, a food donation program aimed at helping those in need in our community during the holiday season; and Camp K.O.P.S, a crime prevention program aimed at allowing local Kids to experience fun camping activities while Obtaining Positive Structure from OPD officers.

Chief Ealum recognized the enthusiasm this fundraiser brought to the department and decided to implement it — with the one-inch length restriction.

OPD hopes to raise more than $7,000 and the department is taking donations as well.
