A new Jagoe Homes’ community honoring Owensboro and Kentucky’s status as the home of bluegrass music is ready for homeowners. The Bluegrass Commons, located by Scherm Road and Barron Drive on Owensboro’s west side, finally has established homes after construction began on the site last year.

The new subdivision, which offers a variety of floor plans, facades, and elevations for homebuyers to choose from, is celebrating its grand opening 4-7 p.m. Thursday.

There are currently 10 homesites sold, with two complete and families living in them. Seven move-in ready homes are under construction and will soon be ready for purchase.

Shawna Kellems, a new home sales consultant with Jagoe Homes, said the community is based on the Bluegrass heritage of Kentucky.

“The entrance will feature a huge banjo on one side and a mandolin on the other,” she said. “With the streets named after a variety of Bluegrass legends — the three sections are legends, acoustics and ballads. All are names added through the Bluegrass theme.”

A bluegrass band will perform in the fully decorated model home during the grand opening and there will be additional homes for guests to tour. Gift cards and door prizes are also available for attendees to win.

Kellems added that the Jagoe Homes crew planted more than 900 trees before starting construction on the homes. There is also a paved walking trail, three lakes and two parks in the neighborhood.

“This is an absolutely gorgeous neighborhood that will be filled with green space for families to enjoy time together,” she said. “Mary (Elliot) and I are excited to bring families together to live here.”
