While construction is expected to continue over the coming year, the first step in renovating Daviess County High School’s football field, track and parking lot is, simply, demolishing the current football field and track.

The demolition process has begun at DCHS, and the first two things contractors are focusing on are the track and football field, according to Mike Ranney, Principal Architect of RBS Design Group.

“Football season is over, so we can start tearing up the track,” Ranney said.

Not only is the track being “torn up,” but the football field is being uprooted so that contractors can eventually lay turf down in place of the grass field that’s been part of Reid Stadium for years.

Ranney says contractors started the demolition process Monday. After the demolition phase, contractors will then begin on the deconstruction phase of renovations. Before deconstruction, however, Ranney says contractors have a lot of demolition to do.

“The plan is still that they’re going to do the demolition work first — pull the bleachers up, and the track,” Ranney said. “Then they can begin the deconstruction.”

Ranney said after demolition, a small gatehouse building will be built as part of the Reid Stadium renovations, and the bleachers will be updated as well.

“All of this is supposed to be done by September of next year,” Ranney said.

After school lets out this summer, contractors will begin demolition on the parking lot, and the plan is to have it completed for the Fall 2019 semester.

As for the track and football field, Ranney says the DCHS Track and Field team will have to look elsewhere to practice and host meets.

“This coming track season, they’ll use a different track,” Ranney said.
