Eastside motorists may have noticed asphalt work along Daniels Lane last week. Daviess County Public Works Director Mark Brasher confirmed this is a half-mile extension of the Adkisson Greenbelt, which will run from Daniels Lane along U.S. 60 and connect to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. This phase of the project will wrap up in the next few weeks, Brasher said.

The intention is to eventually connect this section of the Greenbelt to Yellow Creek Park, but Brasher says the County is currently looking for funding to make the Reid Road connection.

“We have taken one small project at a time over the last 20 or so years,” Brasher said. “This is just one piece of the puzzle to get us to Yellow Creek Park.”

The 2,500 ft. shared use path cost $256,410 and was primarily funded through a federal grant. Once the project is complete, Daviess County Public Works will turn the project over to the parks department, who will be responsible for maintaining the linear park.

Brasher said there are a few areas that would be advantageous for benches and water fountains. Daviess County Parks Director Ross Leigh said while there is not funding for those amenities immediately, he will be looking at them in the future.
