Owensboro Police Department reports on their Facebook page that they have received reports of a phone scam claiming to be from local funeral homes.
“This scam involves someone calling your phone and spoofing a local funeral home number, so you think you are talking to someone locally,” OPD wrote. “The scammer will then try to get information from you in reference to your insurance, beneficiary payouts etc. If you receive one of these calls and are unsure if it is a real call from the funeral home, simply hang up and call the funeral home directly to verify the call.”
Please beware of this scam and do not give out personal or banking information over the phone.
