The National Weather Service in Paducah and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet have issued weather statements regarding last night’s snow showers and cooler temperatures causing slick spots to be possible during the early morning commute.

While the heaviest snow shower activity has come to an end, the combination of wet roads from earlier snow and sub-freezing temperatures may create patchy slick spots in the form of black ice on some roadways.

This will be most common on elevated surfaces, such as bridges and overpasses. If you are traveling early this morning, please slow down, especially when approaching a bridge or overpass. Allow yourself extra following distance and additional time to reach your destination.

Temperatures should rise above freezing by 8-9 a.m. CST.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet cautions motorists to be aware that snow squalls that moved across the region overnight have been intense enough in some areas to overcome warm pavement temperatures to create the potential for slick spots. Drivers are advised to use caution on the morning commute.

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Crews in District 2 have trucks on the road in the following counties:

Daviess – spot treatment – 12 trucks out spot treating bridges, Air temp:28 Road temp:33.

Hancock – treatment – snow – 3 trucks out treating main routes, Air temp: 25 Road temp:32.

Henderson – treatment – 3 trucks treating I-69 and US 41 on the southern end of the county, Air temp: 27 Road temp: 32.
