With an overnight wind chill expected to be at or below 15 degrees, a White Flag Event has been declared Sunday night, Dec. 9, from 7 p.m. until 8 a.m., Monday, Dec. 10.

During a White Flag Event, participating homeless shelters are requested to place a white flag on their facility’s exterior door, which shall publicly convey that extra bed space may be available.

The participating shelters include St. Benedict’s Homeless Shelter at 1001 W 7th Street and the Daniel Pitino Shelter at 501 Walnut Street.

The Daniel Pitino Shelter will be offering breakfast at 8:00 a.m., lunch at 11:00 a.m. and dinner at 5:30 p.m.

What those seeking shelter should know:

You may come to the Daniel Pitino Shelter at 5:30 p.m. Sunday evening to enjoy dinner, and then, if bed space is unavailable at local shelters, go to St. Benedict’s at 7 p.m. for a warm night’s rest.

You may show up on your own at St. Benedict’s any time after 7 p.m. tonight and before 8 a.m. tomorrow.

For those without transportation please contact Harry Pedigo (270-315-4419) before 4 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service Paducah Office’s forecast, Monday night may also meet White Flag criteria. Information will be updated as it is received.
