The Owensboro Family YMCA will begin group swim lessons on Tuesday, Jan. 8 to run through Thursday, Jan. 31. The lessons are for ages 3 to 13.
“We meet every Tuesday and Thursday and they have the option to pick a 4:30 to 5:15 p.m. lesson or 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. lesson,” said Mackenzie Morris, aquatics director for the Owensboro Family YMCA.
The next session will start on Feb. 5 and go to Feb. 25 on the same day and time schedule as January.
Participants will be assessed during the first class to allow instructors to place participants in the appropriate skill level group.
Participants will learn personal water safety and achieve basic swimming competency.
“Our goal is for children to become confident in their abilities and to enhance their skills in the water,” Morris said. “Considering that drowning is the number two cause of death for young children and pre-teens, I believe it’s very important to learn how to swim at an early age.”
The cost for the program is $35 for YMCA members and $95 for non-members.
