Juan Gomez Domingo, 35, of the 700 block of W. Parrish Ave. was arrested Wednesday night in connection to the car that crashed into Bargain Hunt at 500 Southtown Blvd.

Gomez Domingo was charged with a DUI (aggravated circumstances), alcohol intoxication in a public place (1st and 2nd offense), leaving the scene of an accident without rendering aid or assistance, failure to produce insurance card and driving without an operating license. It was Gomez Domingo’s first aggravated DUI charge.

According to an Owensboro Police Department report, officers responded to a call concerning a reckless driver in the Walmart parking lot at 5031 Frederica St. Officers located an unoccupied white 2008 Mazda Tribute that had backed into a pole at the Bargain Hunt location.

After a witness described what the suspect was wearing and the direction he fled on foot, officers stopped Gomez Domingo as he was walking northbound down Frederica St.

The manager of Papa Grande Mexican Restaurant, located near Bargain Hunt, approached officers on the scene and told them the driver of the vehicle was one of his employees.

OPD was unable to complete a standard field sobriety test on Gomez Domingo because of a language barrier and due to the suspect’s heavy alcohol consumption. Gomez Domingo was arrested and booked at Daviess County Detention Center, where he refused to blow into the breath alcohol testing instrument.

This is not Gomez Domingo’s first arrest for a DUI.

In March he was arrested for reckless driving, operating a motor vehicle under the influence and not having an operator’s license. In this arrest, Gomez Domingo also drove in reverse, almost hit the responding officer’s car and attempted to flee the driver’s seat before Officer Hayes made contact.

No injuries from Wednesday night’s accident were reported.
