Reigning Champion Joey Chestnut will return to Owensboro for the 3rd annual World Mutton Sandwich Eating Competition, presented by Kentucky Legend.

“Kentucky Legend is thrilled to sponsor the outstanding International Bar-B-Q Festival here in Owensboro, Kentucky,” said Brooklyn Maple, Brand Director for Kentucky Legend. “Supporting the city is a priority to us, and this is a partnership made in heaven. We are so excited to see Joey Chestnut take a bite out of his competition and we hope to witness another world record in 2019. His energy brings great entertainment to festival attendees and national exposure to our wonderful city.”

The competition will take place during the International Bar-B-Q Festival in downtown Owensboro. Ten to 12 contestants will compete to beat the current world record held by Chestnut, which is 81 4-ounce mutton sandwiches in 10 minutes. Chestnut currently holds almost 40 competitive eating world records, including hot dogs, apple pies, chicken wings, glazed donuts, funnel cakes and more.

“The Festival is thrilled to have Kentucky Legend partner with us again to present the eating competition, which has brought thousands of spectators down to the riverfront since we started it two years ago. We look forward to having Joey back in Owensboro to defend his crown,” said Allen Payne, chairman of the International Bar-B-Q Festival Committee.

The public is invited to watch the World Mutton Eating Competition, which will take place at 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2019, at McConnell Plaza in downtown Owensboro during the 2019 International Bar-B-Q Festival.
