March 14, better known as Pi day, is a day that math nerds and pie enthusiasts alike rejoice in. Whether it be celebrating the perfect combination of numbers or the tasty dessert treat, there are many that look forward to 3.14 arriving on the calendar.

The infinitely-long number gets a special day to celebrate all things Pi and pie, from decorated math classrooms to pizza, pastries and other restaurant wares being offered at a discount.

Some local offers include Mellow Mushroom celebrating with a small cheese pizza for $3.14 with the purchase of any pizza and Kroger offering select pies for a Pi Day special of $3.14.

Options to purchase dessert pies include Reid’s Orchard, Ole South Barbeque, Moonlite Bar-b-que Inn, Old Hickory BBQ, O’Charley’s, Dalishas Bakery, The Family Bakery and the Overflow Cafe.

For a different option, when you order one of Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen made-from-scratch chicken pot pies, you get a second to take and bake at home.

To celebrate at Daviess County High School, students and teachers are wearing Pi attire, and if customers mention West Louisville Elementary School at Donatos Pizza, they can receive a 20 percent discount.

Another nerdy fact — although Pi day is celebrated on March 14, the exact time for celebration is 1:59 p.m., in order to reach the exact number 3.14159.
