The Owensboro Rocks painters are at it again, and this time they will be hiding their creative art pieces around Owensboro Wednesday so that local individuals and families who opted to stay in town during spring break week can go on a fun rock-hunting venture.

The rocks, which were originally created as a marketing tool for Cash Express Owensboro, have quickly become a unique way to spread joy throughout the community.

Krystle Wimsatt, one of the assistant managers at the Cash Express on Tamarack Road, said she was inspired to create the rocks by another employee that transferred from Cadiz, Ky.

“We wanted to start a movement here,” Wimsatt said. “We’re putting positive quotes on some of them and hiding them in parks for kids and restaurants.”

Over 20 rocks have been painted with colorful and whimsical designs, in preparation of being placed in various hiding places around Owensboro.

Wimsatt said, most people may not realize it, but Cash Express does small things throughout the year in an effort to contribute to the surrounding community. The business has hosted an annual toy and coat drive for the past 13 years and honored first responders by delivering cakes and thank you cards signed by community members.

“This is another way to spread a positive message that we’ve come up with,” Wimsatt said. “When people think of our business, it isn’t always in a positive manner. But we work here, we love our town and would love to have all ages participate — and maybe make someone’s day.”
