Independence Bank will host its 3rd annual Cruise-in Backpack Program fundraiser on Saturday, June 15 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Independence Square.
Last year, $4,500 was raised through the event. The fundraiser is important to the Independence Bank community, Sunset Cruisers and Shoe Stop, the sponsors of the event.
“The cost to adopt a student to feed for an entire school year is less than $100,” said Cindy Morgan, coordinator of the event for Independence Bank. “When the school year ended just last week, we [Independence Bank] were feeding 537 students in 13 schools.”
Morgan said they are hoping to have over 200 cars participate in the cruise-in style car show. Last year they had over 150 tri-state cruisers enter the event.
Local celebrity judges Goldie Payne and Jason Cox will pick their top choice, which will receive a trophy. Eight other trophies will be rewarded in categories chosen by Sunset Cruisers who have partnered with Independence Bank for all of the cruise-ins.
“They have been great to work with,” Morgan said. “They [Sunset Cruisers] love knowing where 100 percent of the donations are going.”
The event is planned for Father’s Day weekend, which Morgan said was planned so families can enjoy some time together.
Hot dogs, popcorn and beverages will be provided by Independence Bank while supplies last.
The cost to enter is $20 and participants do not have to pre-register.
Independence Bank is located in Independence Square at 2425 Frederica Street.
