Two young ladies each received a $500 scholarship to Musick Studios due to the generosity of Dr. Janet Rowland, D.M.D.

Kennadi Crowe and Halle Book were the two most recent recipients of the scholarship to further their passion for dance.

Dr. Rowland, who’s daughter Maddie dances at Musick Studios, felt it was important to support youth in the community and be able to lend a helping hand for those that oftentimes may not be able to afford the opportunity to learn dance.

“The inspiration came because my mission as a part of my practice is to empower people through whatever it is that makes them feel good. For me, it’s dentistry,” Rowland said. “I can give young women their smile back and that’s what we do here. For many young women, dance is a way to build their confidence. My daughter Maddie dances there and it really does change the way she views herself. Musick Studios really does encompass all of those things.”

This is the second year Janet Rowland Family Dentistry has participated in supporting the scholarship program. Other businesses who have given back include Captured Moments, Clinic at the Montgomery and Melissa at Lady Luck Tattoo.

Part of the scholarship process includes applicants writing about why they dance, what they have learned the most through dance, the person they admire the most and how they can use dance in other aspects of their life. All of the coaches at Musick Studios review those applications to make their selections based on who they feel meets the mission and vision of the studio.

“It’s [Musick Studios] a small business that supports so many of the things that really support youth in a positive way,” Rowland said. “They also go into the schools and teach dance in the elementary schools, provide entertainment at events, they are involved in the community and doing more than just going in and taking a dance class. I think they are just an integral part of the community and what we are trying to teach our kids.”

Rowland commented on how much of a support system Musick Studios is to the family units these scholarships support. Her philosophy is that by starting with that basic family unit, and all the people that support that unit,  young men and women can then come back and have the support needed to contribute back to the community in a positive way.

“The hours they spend there at the studio and the coaches’ involvement, they really do become a partner in raising these kids,” said Rowland. “It’s something we would love to continue to support and is amazing to see the confidence built in these young men and women because of Musick Studios.”
