According to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office, detectives are continuing to investigate the June 1 shooting and homicide that occurred in Whitesville, leaving two teenagers deceased and one injured as a result. This investigation will continue for quite a while as DCSO continues to fill in the details of the shooter’s motive and additional suspects who may have had some level of involvement.

A 17-year-old juvenile was arrested last week for the shooting and homicide of 16-year-old Amarius Winstead and 18-year-old Jasper Brown. The suspect was charged with two counts of murder and one count of second-degree assault in connection with the June 1 incident.

For now, the juvenile suspect DCSO apprehended on June 4 is being held in Bowling Green and is currently lodged in the Warren County Juvenile Detention Center.

“He’s appeared once for a detention hearing in Juvenile Court,” said DCSO Chief Deputy Barry Smith. “He has a court date later this month in Juvenile Court as well.”

DCSO Sheriff Keith Cain said that after appearing in Juvenile Court, the teenager would be sent to the grand jury for indictment.

“Make no mistake about it, this individual will be tried as an adult,” he said.

In a press conference last week, Cain said that a potential motive for the shooting had been identified. DCSO investigators are aware of an altercation that happened weeks prior to the shooting between the suspect and one of the victims.

“We can’t elaborate on the extent of that, but we believe that was at least in part the motive behind this shooting,” Cain said.

Investigators believe the suspect was targeting the individual from that altercation at the party and the other two victims were “collateral damage.”

Smith and Cain have said DCSO detectives are still uncovering witnesses who could potentially provide information toward the investigation.

In the press conference, Cain said DCSO still had at least 27 individuals they had yet to interview, some of which were associates of the accused, individuals believed to be at the party or names of people that just came up during the course of the investigation.
