For the second year, a Community Blood Drive will be held at the Owensboro Convention Center in partnership with the Western Kentucky Regional Blood Center.

On Thursday, August 1, the public is invited to participate and give the gift of life, with the reminder that one pint of blood can save three lives. The drive will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. inside the Convention Center lobby with no appointment necessary.

“The Convention Center staff and WKRBC have teamed up to provide a public donation opportunity, not only for Convention Center staff, but for Rooster Booster attendees as well,” said WKRBC Director of Donor Resources, Vicki Ellis. “Between the public and both organizations, we are expecting a big donor turnout..”

Those wanting to donate must be at least 17 years old or 16 with parental consent and weigh at least 115 pounds. Donors must check medications with staff, should eat a good meal prior to donation and must allow 56 days between donations.

The Western Kentucky Regional Blood Center serves Daviess, Ohio, Breckenridge, Crittenden, Caldwell, Hopkins, McLean, Trigg and Hancock counties and is currently in urgent need of O Negative blood.

“In an effort to make donation convenient, we have selected a date where high traffic at the Convention Center could not only yield a multitude of blood donors but also high visibility for WKRBC,” Ellis said. “Half of our battle is to remain relevant in the eyes of the community — what better way than at the Convention Center.”

All donors at the Community Blood Drive will receive a free T-shirt and a voucher for 50 percent off lunch at the Kentucky Legend Café located inside the Owensboro Convention Center.
