Daviess Fiscal Court is bringing back its surplus auction for the first time since 2017. This year’s auction features 13 vehicles, two dump trucks, two motorcycles, three salt beds, three snowplows and a backhoe as well as furniture, appliances, bicycles, cell phones, computers, gun cases, knives, various tools and jewelry.

The auction begins at 10 a.m. Aug. 23 at the Daviess County Operations Center, 2620 Kentucky 81.

Jordan Johnson, Daviess County Purchasing Manager, said it typically takes two to three years for the county to accumulate enough surplus inventory to merit an auction.

“We don’t often retire vehicles or equipment each year, especially in any sort of bulk, so we store items until staff feels there is enough to pursue disposition through a surplus auction,” he said.

Johnson said the money brought in at the auction is divided between each participant separately — fiscal court, the sheriff’s department and the extension office.

“The money is remitted respectively, and for Fiscal Court, it is deposited in the general fund,” he said. “Though we are exempt from sales tax, the individuals purchasing these items typically are not, so we collect that tax as well and remit it to the State of Kentucky through our quarterly filing.”

Members of the Daviess County Clerk’s office will be at the auction handling auto transfers.
