The Owensboro-Daviess County Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is asking for the community’s input regarding transportation issues across the local area. Anyone living or working in Daviess County is invited to complete a transportation survey before the MPO begins to write a new, long-term metropolitan transportation plan (MTP) that will focus on transportation projects in Owensboro and Daviess County for the next 25 years.

The survey offers participants an opportunity to rank different types of transportation projects, such as road work, bicycle paths and pedestrian facilities and suggests specific improvement projects for each type of transportation. Residents can leave comments throughout the survey as well.

The last time the city and county’s MTP was updated was in 2014, says MPO Coordinator Tom Lovett.

“The MPO has two transportation plans, and this is the big one,” he said.

Lovett said this survey and subsequent transportation plan is designed to answer the questions, “Where is Owensboro going to be in 25 years? Where are we currently growing, and where is Owensboro going to grow?”

“This is like a wish list. We’re looking for people to tell us which projects need to go on that wish list,” Lovett said. “I think [the community] is where all the best answers come from — from the ones who live, walk, bike and drive in this community.”

Many aspects of the city and county have changed since the last MTP was drawn up five years ago, Lovett said. Certain streets and areas have become more populated, meaning some streets across the city and county may have issues that need to be addressed going forward, such as the need for additional sidewalks and bike paths on roads that have become busier.

Lovett said the Green River Area Development District is very interested in hearing the public’s opinion on these matters, Lovett said.

The survey is available to take until Oct. 31 and can be found on the GRADD website, where it can be filled out, scanned and emailed to [email protected], or it can be mailed to MPO Survey ℅ GRADD, 300 GRADD Way, Owensboro, KY 42301.
