When Miss Daviess County Kendall Terry was crowned in July, she already had big plans of how she wanted to give back to the community. Her Back to School Bash at Wesleyan Christian Center was a success, providing more than 500 free backpacks to those in need within the community. Just a few months later, she is hosting Miss Owensboro with hopes of raising money for the American Cancer Society.

“I just want to give back,” said Terry. “I’m having a pageant on Oct. 20 at Bluegrass Hall of Fame & Museum. One hundred percent of the proceeds will be going to the American Cancer Society.”

According to Terry, the events will be divided into two sessions. For the first session, Sunday best or evening wear will be considered appropriate attire for the competition. The age groups for the first part of the day include: 0-2 (Wee Miss), 3-5 ( Little Miss), 6-8 (Junior Miss), 9-10 (Junior Teen), and the 24 and up (Woman Division).

For the second session, the theme is Pretty in Pink. Participants can choose pink attire for the introduction and a formal gown for the evening gown portion. Terry describes the introduction as “anything goes” within the pink theme. Second session includes ages 11-12 (Pre-teen), 13-14 (Mini Teen), 15-17 (Teen) and 18-23 (Miss).

The cost is $85 per contestant and that includes everything such as People’s Choice and side awards. Participants may add photo supreme for an extra $15.

“This pageant means a lot because it is a benefit pageant,” Terry said. “Every penny made will be helping someone fight cancer.”

In addition to the mentioned events, Terry has created the Miss O’mazing pageant to kick off the day. This pageant will be for any girl of any age with a disability. Every contestant will receive a crown and Terry says she hopes to announce more prizes soon.

“We decided to have a separate pageant for girls with disabilities to put the spotlight on them,” Terry said.

This portion of the pageant has free registration and deadline to join is Oct. 4. Terry asks those interested to send her a private Facebook message if they would like to enter. In addition, each contestant is asked to bring a backpack that will count for their entry to the pageant. This entry will help support her mission of the Back to School Bash for next year.

The Miss O’mazing pageant will begin at 1 p.m. with the Miss Owensboro Pageant immediately following at 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 20. Silent auction items will also be available during the event. Cost to get in the door is $10 per person.

For those that would like to sign up as a contestant or donate to the Miss Owensboro or Miss O’mazing Pageant, please contact Kendall Terry at 270-314-5157 or Matt Rhinerson at 270-925-4000 for more information.
