Young Life is holding its annual fundraiser, Clubs and Clays, Friday at The Pearl Club and Daviess County Gun Club.
Area Director Chris Dillbeck said that to create this unique event, they wanted something that reflected their ministry.
“[Young Life] connects to all kinds of kids and brings them together around something bigger,” Dillbeck said. “Clubs and Clays connects people with different interests and brings them together around something bigger.”
The organization is made up of leaders and community members from various churches, both Protestant and Catholic working with students at College View Middle School, Daviess County Middle School, Apollo High School and Daviess County High School as an extracurricular club.
Two-person teams will have a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. for an 18-hole scramble. This will be followed by a lunch at the Gun Club and then a clay shoot where each team will shoot 100 sporting clays.
Dillbeck said the event allows people to invite their friends to be a part of something that they don’t often do and gather informally which allows people to build relationships.
The proceeds from the event go to enabling weekly school clubs where leaders are building relationships with students in the assigned school and taking kids to Young Life summer camp.
“Each school has an after school club each week that creates an environment where every kind of kid feels welcome, can belong, gets to laugh and hear about a person named Jesus who is crazy about them,” Dillbeck said. “As we recruit and train more leaders, we hope to expand to other schools.”
Ear protection and shells will be provided, but each team needs at least one shotgun.
Cash prizes will be given to the top teams and scores will be averaged from the two events.
Cost to play in the tournament is $150 per player and registration is online.
