Renovations at Jack C. Fisher Park are well underway. Phase 1 of the project includes synthetic fields, irrigation systems and new batting cages. Other parts of Phase 1 include reworking the front parking lot and rebranding the park with new signage.

According to Parks and Recreation Director Amanda Rogers, three out of four softball fields have been excavated.

“Behind the scenes, we’ve got the submittals for irrigation,” she told City Commissioners at a recent work session. “You have to meet certain specifications, and then they’re going to submit the materials we need to use, so we’re going through irrigation materials right now.”

Drainage materials required for the renovations were approved last week, Rogers said.

Construction plans for the back parking lot were submitted to City Engineer Kevin Collignon last week, as well as construction plans for the park’s ticketing entrance.

“We’ve got construction drawings for the main entry sign and the service entrance, so they’ve got until next Monday to review those. We’ll get word back and, hopefully, those projects will be getting bids within the next 6-8 weeks,” Rogers said, adding that the field project will be completed by the scheduled date.

“There’s a significant amount of work they’ll do over the winter,” Rogers said, adding that the project is falling under budget [of the originally projected $2.1 million].
