The Operations Department at Southern Star Central Gas Pipeline challenged the company’s Accounting Department to a football game that was played Friday, Nov. 15, at Steele Stadium on the Kentucky Wesleyan College campus. In addition to the fun of this friendly competition, the employees wanted to include a benefit to the community through this event.

According to Southern Star director of corporate communications and public relations Karen Goedde, employees “voted” for the team they thought would most likely to win by donating supplies for students at either Audubon or Sorgho Elementary School. A total of 15 boxes of supplies were donated.

Southern Star team members – wearing their football jerseys – delivered the supplies to the schools on  Friday, with Family Resource Center coordinators Kelly May (Audubon) and Lucas Vilorio (Sorgho) on hand to welcome the community partners and accept the donations on behalf of the students.

“One of my favorite activities is connecting local companies, like Southern Star, with student needs in our schools,” said Foundation for DCPS Executive Director Vicki Quisenberry. “Posing for the photo together gave students an opportunity to learn about what Southern Star does. It’s always heart-warming to see genuine interest in our community that comes from students meeting our business partners.”
