Owensboro Police Department received a surprise in the form of 50 cupcakes Thursday when 5-year-old Jonah Collishaw brought them to the station to show his appreciation for the officers.

After watching the news with his family and hearing some of the negative things said about police officers, Jonah told his grandmother, Kitty, that he wanted to do something nice for those at OPD.

“He said we should thank them,” Kitty said. “When I brought up the idea of baking cupcakes, he was absolutely thrilled.”

Jonah wrote a letter to go along with the cupcakes that read, “Police, I appreciate your help because you save us from the bad people.” The note also featured a police officer character from Paw Patrol that was hand-drawn by Jonah.

Kitty said the officers were very appreciative for the kindness bestowed by the Collishaws. After receiving the cupcakes, Public Information Officer Andrew Boggess gave Jonah his very own police patch and some stickers to take home. Kitty said Jonah went out of his way to share his stickers with everyone he came across that afternoon.

“We are fortunate to have such a supportive community,” Boggess said. “The idea that Jonah, at such a young age, was so thoughtful is incredible and we really appreciate it.”
