The committee for Empty Bowls announced their annual fundraiser has been rescheduled as a drive-thru-only event from 1-3 p.m. Oct. 10.

The event was originally scheduled for April 23 at Brescia University; however, it was postponed due to COVID-19.

The fundraiser will now take place at the Independence Bank located at 2425 Frederica St. The drive-thru lanes at the bank will be open with soups pre-packaged for pick-up.

An assortment of bowls will be available and volunteers will assist ticketholders in picking out their favorite one while adhering to all the Healthy at Work initiatives set by Gov. Andy Beshear.

Tickets are $15 and may be purchased in advance starting Monday at Allstate, located at 1210 Burlew Blvd. If there are any remaining tickets, they will be made available during the event at Independence Bank.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Feed a Friend. Feed a Friend is the result of the evolution of a soup kitchen that originally took place at Journey Fellowship after the former church saw a need in the community.

Currently, the organization is housed in the former Zion United Church of Christ and serves two meals a week — one on Wednesday night and one on Friday night. They serve more than 10,000 people in the community annually through community dinners and through a food pantry that serves veterans in need.

The committee is currently accepting donations of silent auction items and baskets from local businesses and individuals. If you are interested in donating, please contact Empty Bowls at [email protected].
