Sheila Crowe wants to help the community, and this Saturday she’ll do it by partnering with a local life insurance agent to provide an information booth at Pinky’s SnowCones & Snacks from 2-5 p.m. where people can either sign up for a policy or at least get more educated on the subject.

“The best thing you can do is have life insurance,” said Crowe, who owns and operates Pinky’s, which is located at 905 W. 5th Street. “With life insurance, there is a lack of knowledge. You just think it’s expensive because car insurance is expensive, homeowner’s insurance is expensive, but (life insurance) really is not. The younger you are, the better policy you can get for just a couple dollars.”

Crowe said she had already planned on setting up a booth to help inform the community about life insurance, but recent events have made it especially more important. She specifically noted the homicide of a 15-year-old over the weekend.

“I’m just trying to give people the knowledge and the opportunity to take care of their families,” Crowe said.

Crowe announced the event Sunday on Pinky’s Facebook page.

In part, the post reads, “… the least thing you can do is have life insurance. If someone loses a loved one, the last thing you want to have to worry about is laying them to rest.”

She said people will be able to speak directly to an insurance agent about getting life insurance. Those wishing to obtain a policy need a valid ID, Social Security Number, and banking info.

The Facebook post ends with, “So think of any questions you might have and be prepared to make one of the most important decisions you can in life.”
