Hermitage Care & Rehabilitation Center introduced a pen pal program for the residents at the facility last week.

Ann Wilder, communications manager for Signature HealthCARE, said the program is still in its infancy, but word is already getting out and they couldn’t be happier by the profound interest and response by the community.

She said the idea started when the leadership team at Hermitage — particularly its activities department — wanted to add to its list of activities to keep residents engaged and inspired.

“Hermitage knows this is absolutely crucial during the difficult season of COVID-19, and the current restrictions on visitation required for the utmost safety of all,” she said. “So, the facility’s Activities Department, which consists of Activities Director Brandy Gross and Assistant Activities Director Misty Moffett, reached out to each of its residents to inquire if they would be interested in a pen pal program.”

Wilder said Signature HealthCARE’s Hermitage Care & Rehabilitation Center received such positive feedback from their residents, there was no question of the potential for success with the program.

In addition to keeping the residents engaged and inspired, the pen pal program will help residents stay connected to their community and will allow them to cultivate new relationships.
