The Daviess County Public Library in partnership with Nonviolent Owensboro is asking adults and teens to submit photos that highlight the diversity of the people who live, work or worship in the Owensboro-Daviess County area.

All photos will be printed and displayed on the second floor during “Campaign Nonviolence Action Week,” which is Sept. 19-27.

Campaign Nonviolence Week of Action takes place annually near Sept. 21, which is International Peace Day. During this week, people from around the world demand positive social change for the injustice and violence present in the world, including war, poverty, racism and environmental destruction.

“In the wake recent events including the Breonna Taylor case, the George Floyd case, and even local cases like the death of Corban Henry, we as the library felt it was important to highlight the people and organizations that are working to create positive change within our community and the world by capturing moments that will help to inspire change and reform,” said Tiffani Henry, Public Relations Coordinator.

To submit an entry, email the photo to [email protected] as a JPG or PNG file.

There can only be one entry per person and it must include the person’s name, phone number, and a brief blurb about the photo.  There must be at least one person in the picture to be considered for the contest.

All photos will be displayed from Sept. 28-Oct. 2 on the second floor of the library. Photos will also be posted to the DCPL Facebook page.

The three photos that receive the most votes from both in-person votes and Facebook votes will receive the following prizes:
• 1st place: Digital camera, SD card, and case
• 2nd place: Instant Polaroid camera with accessories
• 3rd place: $50 gift card to Shutterfly

The deadline to submit photos is Sept. 25.

Nonviolent Owensboro is a group of Owensboro area citizens committed to practicing and promoting nonviolent living and direct action through education and community partnerships. They are a chapter of Campaign Nonviolence in the Nonviolent Cities Project.
