Grace Christian Academy will hold its first-ever golf scramble Monday at the Summit Country Club. Nearly all proceeds from the fundraising event will go toward providing needs-based tuition assistance for those attending GCA.

GCA Board President Mike Dechman said the Oct. 12 golf scramble will accommodate 28 teams of four. He said 60 people have already registered for the event, and the newly established private school has already earned $20,000 that will cover tuition costs as well as general expenses and sports programs.

“With this being our first year, we didn’t really know what to expect. We’re sitting right at about half of our registrations, and that’s really good [for our first year],” Dechman said. “We would like to fill it up all the way if possible.”

Grace Christian Academy opened this fall and offers students “an independent, non-denominational college preparatory high school whose mission is to glorify God by equipping students with a spiritually and academically solid Christian worldview,” according to its website. The school started its first academic year enrolling freshmen students.

And though Dechman said GCA was a little late getting their first golf scramble off the ground, the entire event and all 18 holes were sponsored within one week.

Dechman said door prizes and Par 3 prizes will be given out that include a set of golf clubs, a $500 Visa gift card and a $25,000 grand prize for anyone who gets a hole-in-one on hole No. 7. Prizes were made possible through an insurance policy with Hole In One International.

“In the unlikely event multiple hole-in-ones are hit, each person will receive $25,000,” Dechman added.

The golf scramble will start at 8 a.m. at The Summit’s Pearl Club. Online registration will be open until Saturday.

The entry fee will be $400 per team, though those wishing to support GCA’s tuition assistance do not have to participate to donate. Anyone wishing to donate can click here or visit GCA’s website for more information about the school.
