New Beginnings Sexual Assault Support Services is hosting a Facebook Live event Tuesday for community members to increase understanding of how sex offenders manipulate children and abuse them.

Terri Crowe, victim advocate with New Beginnings, said the event titled “Facing the Truth: Grooming & Sexual Abuse” is from 6-7 p.m. Tuesday.

“We want to increase our community’s awareness about and knowledge of the frequency with which child sexual abuse occurs and how perpetrators/offenders tend to groom/manipulate children to abuse them,” Crowe said.

Crowe will be the presenter and will talk about topics such as defining child sexual abuse, defining grooming, characteristics of abusers, why and how does grooming work, red flag behaviors of abusers, advice from child molesters, and tips on what someone can do.

She encourages all adult members of the community to tune in.

“It’s crucial that the public be both well-informed and actively involved in watching out for the safety of all children,” she said.

The video will be available for replay on Facebook.
