The day after Halloween kicks off the holiday season for many, and it will be no different for Welborn Floral’s Christmas Open-Air market coming Sunday. The outdoor event welcomes shoppers to enjoy plenty of space to social distance while exploring a range of unique gifts and holiday items.

Owner of Welborn’s Florist Sally Ward is excited to bring a safe event to the community while offering shoppers a one-stop holiday shopping experience.

“I want to make sure people understand it’s outdoor which is what we mean by an open-air market outside under tents. The day after Halloween seemed like a really good time to do that,” Ward said.

There will be a kids area where children can write letters to Santa. All letters will be taken to Santa Claus, Ind., and each child will get a letter back mailed from that location.

“Nona’s is making Christmas cookies for the children and there will be coffee and hot chocolate available to purchase,” Ward said.

Ward says she hopes to create a place for local artists and craft vendors to sell whatever they have to offer.

“All Christmas ribbon, ornaments, and home décor will be 50 percent off. Customers are invited to buy their own ribbon now through Nov. 7 and have their bows tied no charge,” the event information reads.

Ward says that Welborn’s has recently acquired the property at 900 E. 4th St., a location that had previously been a car lot. After the purchase in August, they began brainstorming how to use the space.

“This will be our first market — we hope it’s the first of many,” she said. “Our goal is to offer a craft and floral market monthly starting in the spring. We’ve had a lot of people ask about it.”

The event will take place Sunday from 12-4 p.m.

“We hope that everyone will come out,” Ward said. “We know everyone is excited for Christmas this year and  looking forward to joyful times.”
